Georgia-based app could help make meeting online buyers/sellers safer

An app called Safe2Meet is making strides to make meeting with a complete stranger for an online purchase safer.

Safe2Meet is a Georgia-based company that will perform quick background checks on the strangers you decide to meet, whether it's a date you met online, a seller you may be purchasing from or if your purchasing services from a private contractor you've never heard of.

"We've partnered with one of the largest identify database providers in the tech world. They are the providers for our identify verification and background checks," Tavonia Evans, co-founder of Safe2Meet, said, "We've just launched our public beta a few days ago and we have only a few dozen members at the moment."

There have been a recent rash of crimes, some fatal, that have occurred after a transaction was set up online in the metro Atlanta area.

If the app is not your cup of tea, you can always take extra precautions in order to avoid an unsafe encounter with a potential sell, buyer, whatever.

  • Meet at a police station parking lot. Many police stations allow these transactions to happen in their own parking lots to avoid any unsafe situations.
  • Always let someone know where you are, when you are going and what time you are meeting.
  • If you are a licensed firearms carrier, please bring your weapon with you.

Be safe and aware of your surroundings and never go to meet a complete stranger alone.
