A DeKalb County officer is going to be in the national spotlight when he and his wife appear on NBC's The Wall.
Andre and Tomeka Hardaway had never actually seen the show, but one morning in church, their pastor said they were taking auditions – and at that moment they could think of about 12 million reasons why they should.
“We did see where LeBron James was talking about how the show provided a great opportunity for good people. It was so exciting that we decided on a whim to go down and audition for it,” Andrew said.
And before they even got out of the parking lot, the Hardaways had a producer track them down and tap them for the show.
“The show is about helping people who are doing something to help others, like good people, and they say it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Andre said.
For a DeKalb detective and his over the road truck driver wife who are expecting a baby, this could not have come at a better time. They did their research and watched the show and they got hooked.
“I would actually be on the seat, you know hanging off the seat, falling over, being like, 'No! No! No! Don't do that. Why do you do that?' But then when you're there and it's you, it's so emotional," Tomeka said.
While on the floor, Tomeka had to choose the position where the balls would drop, and pray it landed in the right slots.
“I'd be up and jumping up and down, and next thing I'm sick and I'm thinking, 'Oh my God, I'm going to pass out. I can't handle. This is too much. It's just too much.' It's just such an adrenaline rush,” she said.

Meanwhile, her husband was sequestered behind The Wall with no idea of what's going on based on his answers to questions - the total goes up or down. Correct answers add money; wrong ones take it away.
“My wife is a risk taker and I'm more logical, rational…You know, so we decided that I would be better to go back behind the wall and answer the questions and I would be better entertaining because I'm like a clown,” Andre said.
And while they couldn't tell us how much they made – they did say this…
“Like they say The Wall giveth and The Wall taketh away,” the couple laughed.
