Local police, restaurant hosting fundraiser for officer, dad of 6, whose home was destroyed by fire

Officer Marty Williams' home was a total loss and he and his six children have been living in a hotel ever since.

TUCKER, Ga. – A DeKalb police precinct and a local restaurant are hosting a fundraiser on Friday to benefit a police officer and a father of six whose entire home was destroyed in a fire earlier this month.

Officer Marty Williams’ home was a total loss and he and his six children have been living in a hotel since the March 1, 2018, fire. Williams’ wife died two years ago, shortly after the birth of their last child.

DeKalb County's south precinct, along with Mix’d Up Burgers, is hosting a fundraiser Friday, March 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the precinct parking lot, 2842 H.F. Shepherd Drive, in Decatur. Hamburgers, fries and other items will be sold, as well as beverages.

Mix’d Up Burgers is donating 20 percent of all sales to the Williams family, which includes five girls -- ages three, four, seven, nine and 11 -- and one four-year-old boy.

Any cash or clothing donations will be forwarded to Williams to help with his family’s immediate needs.
