Man shoots at officer during traffic stop, flees; police search for two suspects

MABLETON, GA - Police are searching for two suspects after an officer attempted to make a traffic stop when the passenger of the vehicle allegedly shot at the officer then fled.

Cobb County PD say that at around 1:21 a.m., an officer observed two white males exiting an Exxon gas station located at 6211 Mableton Parkway.

The officer said the two men looked suspicious and proceeded to follow them to make a traffic stop.

When the officer tried to perform the traffic stop, the passenger of the vehicle allegedly shot at the officer multiple times and fled. The officer did not return fire.

The officer attempted to pursue the suspects in the area of Mableton Parkway and Community drive.

Both suspects then dumped the vehicle near 6111 Venetian Drive and continued to flee on foot.

Cobb PD called for K9 Units as well as chopper to help search the area but K9 Units soon lost the scent of the suspects.

Police say they will continue to have a heavy police presence in the area and will be stopping vehicles entering and leaving the area and will make sure students can get to school safely.

Investigators are speaking with witnesses who have knowledge of the incident and investigations are ongoing at this time.
