MABLETON, Ga. -- An investigation is underway after a man was shot in the leg by a Cobb County police officer Sunday morning, officials confirm.
According to the Cobb County Police Department, officers were dispatched to Allen Road and Nellie Brook Drive in Mableton shortly before 10 a.m. after reported suspicious activity.
At some point while on the scene, an officer with the department fired and hit a man in the leg. The investigation is now being handled by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), as is standard with police-involved shootings.

The GBI later added that the call began as a report of a suspicious vehicle and that, when police investigated, they found that the vehicle was stolen. Police told the GBI that the subjects in the vehicle fled on foot. One was chased by an officer who eventually fired his weapon.
The GBI investigation findings will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney's Office when complete.
