A man was shot by Clayton County police early Sunday night outside a Jonesboro apartment complex.

Police were responding to reports of a man threatening suicide with a weapon at the South Cove apartment complex on Jonesboro Road.

The incident stemmed from what police said was a domestic disturbance, said Maj. Bryant Danekes.

“Officers encountered the subject outside the apartment building when the subject pulled a gun,” Danekes said. Police told the subject to put down the gun, and when he didn’t comply, “shots were fired,” he said.

The subject’s name or condition have not been released. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is taking over the case, and the officers involved will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
