Firefighters battle blaze at DeKalb apartments

CHAMBLEEA, GA - According to DeKalb County Firefighters Twitter, they are working an abandoned apartment fire located on the 3500 block of Shallowford Road in Chamblee, Ga. at 5:45 a.m. on Thursday.

According to Captain Jackson, PIO for DeKalb Fire, these apartments were completely abandoned. Firefighters had to cut through chains in order to gain access to the building. Also, these same apartments were slated to be town down to make way for a new school. There was a fire at this same location back in August of this year.

Buford Highway at Shallowford Road should be avoided, between New Peacthree and Chamblee Dunwoody.

No word on how the fire started. Investigations are still underway.
