Superheroes spotted in Cumming

Batman, Supergirl, and other well-known caped crusaders took part in Saturday’s CASA Superhero Run.

CUMMING, Ga. — CASA of Forsyth County held it’s 11th annual Superhero Run on Saturday morning, raising money to recruit and train volunteers.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Heidi Grimmett, an advocacy case manager, said. “This is a chance for folks to come out and support us in a way when they might not necessarily be able to be an advocate for children.”

Paula Malmfeldt, executive director for the local chapter of CASA, said roughly 400 people participated this year – not bad considering it was cold and rainy at race time.

“I've been impressed,” Malmfeldt said. “People come to run for all different reasons. They've made a New Year's resolution. I met folks who said their family has decided to run a 5k every month, so they're coming out as a family. There are people who love foster care. There are people here because they love dressing up as superheroes.”
