East Point man says genealogy leads him to Presidents Obama, Bush and others

The history lover never realized until President Barack Obama's election in 2008 they were related.

EAST POINT, Ga. — D. Gordon Draves has been a member of the East Point Historical Society for decades.

As a lover of history, Draves rides his bicycle all over the country, visiting memorials and other sites.

However, he never realized until studying his genealogy, how much he truly was a part of history.

During President Barack Obama's election in 2008 he learned his 8th great-grandparents on his mother's side are Mary Bloomfield Dunham and Johnathan Dunham. Dunham is an ancestor of our 44th President.

Draves also recently learned John Howland and Elizabeth Tilly are his 10th great-grandparents on his father’s side. Which makes him related to the President George Bush, President George W. Bush and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

So far Draves hasn't met any of his distinguished relatives just yet but says it gives him something to look forward to.
