East Point serves up turkeys for families in need

At two separate charity events this weekend, council members and residents reached out to help needy East Point families have a happy Thanksgiving.

EAST POINT, Ga. — At least 1000 Turkeys were given to East Point families in need just in time for Thanksgiving.

At the Turkey Classic, the Georgia Spartans handed out more than 500 turkeys and canned goods. They also played a charity basketball game.

Angela DesAutels attended the event. She said, "The chance to have Thanksgiving with little or no funds this year... it means a lot."

Meanwhile, hundreds picked up bags filled with Turkey and cake from the city of East Point.

Cellastine Jimerson received a turkey.

"It makes me feel real good that East Point has taken the time to think about its residents," she said.

The Emerging 100 South Metro Chapter also helped to make sure everyone who wanted a turkey, left with one in hand.

East Point City council member Karen Rene says, "This is one way city council and East Point can give back to our residents and help them have a happy Thanksgiving."
