Gwinnett officer to cycle to Washinton D.C. in memory of fallen officer

Officer Ashley Wilson worked closely with Officer Antwan Toney, who was killed in the line of duty. She now will bike to Washington DC to honor him.

Gwinnett County Police Officer Ashley Wilson wanted to do something to honor her fallen brother in blue, Officer Antwan Toney.

"Officer Toney was my best friend; he was my brother in blue; he was everything it meant to be a police officer," Officer Wilson said.

Wilson worked alongside Officer Toney at the same precinct. She says her and Officer Toney use to do everything together.

"He had an infectious smile he embodied everything it meant to have a servants heart," Officer Wilson said.

In memory of her friend, Wilson decided to train for the Police Unity Tour.

"After everything had calmed down, after Toney's funeral, I needed something to get me focused," Officer Wilson said.

She will cycle 250 miles, her and 200 other officers from the South East region will start at Portsmouth, Va. to Washington D.C. The purpose of the tour is to raise money for the Fallen Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C., which will be there last stop.

Last year the tour raised over $2.6 million dollars. This year will be Officer Wilson's first time participating.

"I am really to be representing our department and representing him so that I can tell anybody and everybody about Toney's legacy," Officer Wilson said.

Wilson has been training since November, and she trains for two hours a day and on weekends four to five hours, to prepare the tour.

"I had been riding my bike on and off for the past four or five years. It wasn't until Officer Toney past that I had a mission. I had a goal," Officer Wilson said.

She will start her three-day journey to Washington D.C. May 8.
