Police arrested a 27-year-old Dalton man Sunday on an animal cruelty charge after receiving a report of a dog being hung on a fence.

Police said a witness reported Corey Yarbrough walking a pit bull on a leash. The witness told police that almost immediately after seeing Yarbrough the first time, she saw him again without the dog.

The witness walked back toward Harmon Field to look for the dog and saw the pit bull hanging by its leash from a fence near an intersection.

After getting the dog down, the witness called 911. Police investigated and placed Yarbrough under arrest.

The dog was not harmed and was walking around at the scene. It was taken to Whitfield County Animal Control.
