Polk County Police have confirmed they are investigating the death of toddler Ella Grayce Pointer.
On Oct. 29 between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., Polk County police responded to a 911 call about a 21-month-old baby girl who was not breathing. EMS started CPR. The baby was transported to the Polk County Medical Center, and later airlifted to Egleston Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Pointer passed away at 4:46 Sunday afternoon.
The G.B.I. confirmed to 11Alive News they are assisting in the investigation by processing the crime scene.
"We are currently awaiting the results of the autopsy report from the G.B.I. crime lab as well as hospital records before an official cause of death can be made," Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd said in a statement sent to 11Alive News.
Chief Dodd confirmed the toddler was with two men at the time of the incident. Both have been interviewed by police. One of the men, identified as 27-year-old Dustin Putnal, was arrested for violation of his current probation. Putnal is the boyfriend of Pointer's mother, Shellby Garner.
The other man at the home has not been identified by police.
"As we gather more information about the case another release will be done," Chief Dodd told 11Alive News.
The hashtag #JusticeforEllaGrayce is being heavily used by family and friends, pushing for police to make an arrest.
"She was a light," Ella's mother Shellby Garner told 11Alive's Deborah Tuff. "She brought light to everybody's life she came into."
Despite details, names, and photos released on social media, police say no one has yet been charged in Pointer's death.
The family is collecting donations to help with burial. They can be sent to the Lester Litsey Funeral Home.
