11-year-old in critical condition as police investigate shooting at DeKalb County skating rink

Authorities are offering limited details.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County Police are investigating after an 11-year-old was shot near a skating rink overnight.

Police were called to 2750 Wesley Chapel Road in Decatur at 12:46 a.m. That's the address of Golden Glide Skating Rink.

There, they found an 11-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound. They add that the child was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

11Alive crews at the scene saw a crowd outside by the road and several patrol vehicles with police lights on. 

According to police, detectives are in the process of investigating the incident, interviewing witnesses and gathering video from nearby businesses. At this time, they said no arrests have been made.

A witness told 11Alive that the incident started in the skating rink and then spilled into the parking lot. A witness said someone fired a gunshot into a crowd, injuring an 11-year-old boy.
