Teen arrested in shooting death of 15-year-old girl

Police said that Bolton was "an acquaintance" of Newson, and that the shooting appeared to be an accident.

ATLANTA -- Police said an arrest has been made in the shooting death of a 15-year-old girl in southwest Atlanta.

According to Atlanta Police, 17-year-old Micah Bolton is charged with murder in the death of Nacari Newson.

Newson was in the chest shot outside of a home on Greenleaf Circle on Jan. 24. She was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she later died.

Police said that Bolton was "an acquaintance" of Newson, and that the shooting appeared to be an accident.

In a news conference Tuesday afternoon, police said Bolton initially told authorities that the shooting had been a drive-by shooting. However, evidence suggested that the shooting happened in the yard and not as a result of a drive-by shooting authorities said.

Police said that they were able to locate evidence in Bolton's home, including the gun allegedly used in the shooting. Another gun was also found in the home.

Bolton turned himself into Fulton County Jail on Tuesday, according to police.

The shooting was one of three that involved young girls in Atlanta in a span of 24 hours. Those shootings appear to be unrelated.
