Tip leads Fairburn police, other agencies to Alabama fugitive.

Suspect responded to online ad and then robbed the sellers at gunpoint, police say

FAIRBURN, Ga. -- A fugitive accused of robbing two men trying to sell items in Alabama over the summer has been caught in metro Atlanta after a tip and multi-agency search.

The Times Daily in Florence, Alabama reports that 19-year-old Dezmon Melik Robertson robbed his victims at gunpoint with help from relative Rickey Robertson III on July 18 after responding to a Facebook sale posting.

Rickey was caught the same afternoon but for the next few months, Dezmon remained on the run. It wasn't until Dec. 7 that he was finally taken into custody following a tip to Fairburn, Georgia police.

From there, a search began that included the Fulton County and Fayette County sheriff's offices as well as officers from the Union City, Palmetto, and Fairburn police departments.

When Dezmon spotted officers, he tried to run but was ultimately captured. He now faces extradition back to Alabama and, now, local charges in Georgia.
