You've probably seen the headlines that tickets to the National Championship are three or four times higher than last year. But, are there any truth to those claims?

QUESTION

Are tickets to the National Championship three times higher than last year?

ANSWER

Yes — this claim is true.

EXPLANATION

11Alive's VERIFY team reached out to StubHub, an official seller of tickets. As of Thursday at noon, they told us the average ticket price for Monday's game is about $2,571. Compare that to last year, when ticket re-sellers reported the average price was $675.

StubHub said 3,864 tickets were still available.

StubHub said 50 percent of ticket buyers for Monday's game are in Georgia, with only 3 percent of sales from Alabama.

The cheapest seats available are $1.350 for the Upper Corner. So, if you're still trying to make it to that game, you're going to have to shell out over a thousand for a nose-bleed seat.
