Warrants: Hit man kills veteran in ambush caught on video

The suspect allegedly takes off his mask during the assault.

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - A man has been charged for the murder of a veteran in an ambush that took place in September 2017.

According to warrants obtained by 11Alive, at 3 a.m. on September 1, three men in black military clothing and masks can be seen in surveillance video exiting a car near Phillip Lamar Davis's home. They exited the car and stood at the side of the home and are seen waiting.

One man with an AR-15 is also seen on the video, according to the warrant.

When Davis opened the garage door at 6:00 a.m., the suspects appear and start fighting with him. One of the suspects shoots Davis. He is shot again in the gut by suspect Jose Luis Marquez-Colon, the warrant reads.

The victim and Davis' wife then retreat back into the home to call 9-1-1. Marquez-Colon is allegedly seen removing his mask and is clearly visible in the video. He is also allegedly seen kicking the door to the home.

An anonymous tipster reached out to police and gave Marquez-Colon's name and number. The tipster also revealed that the victim had been fronted drugs at some point and was failing to pay for it so a hit was allegedly put out on him. Marquez-Colon allegedly took the hit job, according to the tipster.

It was also later discovered on Facebook that the suspect is seen wearing the same jacket in one of his photos that is seen in the surveillance video. Also, Marquez-Colon's phone pinged and pinned him at the location at the time of the ambush.

He was arrested and booked in DeKalb County Jail on September 29, 2017 and is being charged with murder.

There is no word on whether police have found the other two suspects.
