DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Douglasville Police said a suspect was shot by an officer in Lithia Springs on Wednesday.

Authorities said an officer was dispatched to a location along Preston Boulevard regarding a naked man at about 1:30 p.m.

According to police, the officer arrived, and found the man walking down Preston Boulevard. The officer pulled over and was trying to talk to the man and calm him down.

The GBI said the man lunged at the officer and started a struggle. The officer was blocking the subject's punches, then pulled out his gun and shot the man one time in the arm.

The man fell down, but as backup arrived, he got back up and was Tased, then handcuffed before he was taken to a Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the independent investigation, as is routine in officer-involved shootings.

Once the investigation has been completed, additional information will be released.
