Woman shot in back, caught in crossfire of gun fight outside night club

She then ran to her vehicle and felt something strike her in the back.

ATLANTA - A woman was shot in the back after trying to escape a gun battle between a group of men early Monday morning.

An Atlanta officer was working a second job at the Peacock Night Club located on 186 Auburn Avenue at 3:00 a.m. when he heard about 15 gunshots.

Officers responded and made contact with the victim on Jesse Hill Jr. Drive and Auburn Avenue. She was inside of her vehicle and was suffering from a gunshot wound to her back.

She told police that there was a group of men fighting outside of the club when she heard shots fired.

She then ran to her vehicle and felt something strike her in the back.

Police say the victim then saw a gray Infiniti race away from the location and headed west on Auburn Avenue.

Another officer drove south on Jesse Hill Jr. Drive towards Martin Luther King Jr. and was able to find a gray Infinity sedan parked on the side of the road with two flat tires and damage to the vehicle that was likely caused by gunfire.

Two men returned to the parked Infiniti after which the officer detained them. The arresting officer also observed that one of the men sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

The injured man was transported to the hospital while the other man was taken to Atlanta PD headquarters.

This case is still being investigated.
