DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. -- A longtime math teacher and coach at Douglas County High School is facing possible jail time after being arrested for having sexual contact with a student.

Brian Davidson, 55, was arrested on two counts of custodial sexual assault. According to arrest warrants, Davidson is accused of having inappropriate contact with a 17-year-old student on two occasions. It's not clear if it was the same female involved in both incidents. The warrants list the address of Douglas County High School the place where the incidents took place.

While the warrants indicate the alleged incidents happened in mid-August, Davidson wasn't arrested until Oct. 5.

The school’s website, which still featured Davidson’s photo as of Tuesday, lists him as a math teacher and a coach of both the girls and boys golf team.

Davidson, who has worked at the school for 24 years, has been released on bond.

Douglas County Schools spokesperson Karen Stroud issued a statement saying:

A Douglas County teacher turned himself in to the City of Douglasville Police Department in early October following an allegation of inappropriate conduct made by a student.

It is our understanding this matter is still under investigation by the police and attorneys. The teacher is on administrative leave and has not been in the classroom since the school system was informed of the charges.

Douglasville police referred requests for comment to the district attorney, who have not yet commented.
