Malcolm Young, AC/DC guitarist and co-founder, dead at 64

Young retired from the band after being diagnosed with dementia.

Malcolm Young, guitarist and co-founder of AC/DC, died on Saturday, according to a statement from the band. He was 64 years old.

"With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band," wrote AC?DC in the statement.

Malcolm founded the band with his brother, Angus Young, in 1973. He played guitar for the band until 2014, when he took a leave of absence for health reasons. The band later confirmed he had been diagnosed with dementia, and that he would be permanently leaving.

Malcolm's brother, George Young, passed away in October at the age of 70. He was AC/DC's producer and guitarist for Easybeats.
