Three Hurricanes at once: Irma, Jose and Katia

After forming Wednesday morning as tropical storms, Jose and Katia have now reached hurricane status.

A tweet from the National Hurricane Center about tropical storm Jose.

As Hurricane Irma, now a Category 5 storm, makes its first landfall in the Caribbean, two more storms have formed in the Atlantic and have reached hurricane status.

Hurricanes Jose hit category one status far east of Hurricane Irma late Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Katia had formed as a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico early Wednesday morning, then reached hurricane status by the late afternoon. The National Hurricane Center predicts little movement for Katia over the next few days, but the forecast suggested it would become a hurricane before approaching the coast of the Mexican state of Veracruz.
