PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. -- Shoppers and business owners beware – and check your money.
Authorities in Pickens County are warning the public of counterfeit money that is circulating in the area. The sheriff’s office announced on Tuesday that several $50 bills and at least one $100 bill have been confirmed fake in the area.
The fakes look amazingly real – in no small part because, in the case of the $50 phony, it’s printed on a $5 bill. All bills so far have had the same serial number: JF08662079A.
Investigators warn that the best way to tell if a bill is real or fake is to hold it up to the light. From there, residents should be able to see that they are $5 bills that have been copied.
