"We have a lot of cans," said student Myles Cunningham.

This isn't the first year Greater Atlanta Christian School has participated in the 11Alive Can-A-Thon. It's now a tradition that the students know and love.

"It feels special as a school,” said fifth grader Harrison Voelzke. “We're not the only school that does this but I feel like we do a really good job with this."

The school has more than 1,800 hundred students from 6-weeks-old to 12th grade who have collected more than 9,500 food items. A number that is sure to grow as students continue encouraging others to give.

"I think it's amazing how we work together and it's like working together like a family," said 11-year-old Sophia Choe.

"It felt good to tell everybody that we need to help our community," said fifth-grader Katie Koons.

The school gives students opportunities to give back all year long, but for Principal, Dr. Brad Schultz, the Can-A-Thon this time of year is special.

"We go straight from Thanksgiving from being so thankful for all that we have right into oh we need to go get things that we want and I think it's nice to have that time we can continue that thanksgiving and being so thankful and the outpouring of being thankful is to give," Dr. Brad Schultz

Leaving students with a desire to be of service and a wonderful feeling as well.

"I think everybody's been feeling great,” said Cunningham. “Because we're helping those who need food."
