Election 2018: Six enter governor's race, as qualifying enters final days

Qualifying for Election 2018 in Georgia ends Friday.

ATLANTA - Six people have qualified so far in Georgia's nationally watched gubernatorial race, as the qualifying period enters its final 48 hours.

On Wednesday, Secretary of State Brian Kemp and former Navy SEAL Clay Tippins qualified, bringing the number of Republicans seeking the governor's mansion to four. Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and former state lawmaker Hunter Hill are also in the race.

Two other former state lawmakers - both Democrats - are seeking their party's nomination, Stacey Abrams and Stacey Evans.

The lieutenant governor's race still has five candidates seeking the post, with three Republicans - David Shafer, Rick Jeffares and Geoff Duncan - and two Democrats, Sarah Riggs Amico and Triana Arnold James, in the race.

As of Thursday morning, two metro Atlanta congressmen - U.S. reps. Hank Johnson (D-4) and John Lewis (D-5) - had no opposition, nor does U.S. Rep. Austin Scott (R-8) or Tom Graves (R-14). Scott's district surrounds Augusta, while Graves' 14th district includes portions of northwest Georgia, including Rome.
