#Election11: Recount could be triggered in Atlanta city council race

Several new Atlanta city council members were elected Tuesday night.

A recount could be triggered in the Atlanta City Council Post 1 at large contest between incumbent Michael Julian Bond and Courtney English.

Bond finished with 41,079 votes and English with 40,714, a difference of 365 votes. According to Fulton County election officials, English is within his rights to request a recount in there is a 1% margin of difference in the final count.

In the race for Atlanta city council president, Alex Wan and Felicia Moore are headed for a Dec. 5 runoff. Wan finished with 38% to Moore’s 35%. C.T. Martin came in third.

In the Atlanta city council post 2 at large, to replace Mary Norwood, Matt Westmoreland won a solid victory over Cory Ruth and Bret Williams, handily avoiding a runoff by finishing with 64% of the vote.

Andrea Boone replaced Martin in District 10, while a runoff in Keisha Lance Bottoms’ district 11 is set between Harold Hardnett and Marci Overstreet. Martin had been on the city council since 1990.

Jennifer Ide replaces Wan in District 6, defeating Kirk Rich for the open seat.
