ATLANTA — In the nation’s most closely watched election, Democrat Jon Ossoff held a fundraiser Monday night featuring live performances from several Georgia musicians.
Ossoff is in a June 20 runoff against Republican Karen Handel in the race to replace Tom Price, now President Donald Trump’s secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in the 6th congressional district.
Earlier in the day, U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan held a rally for Handel.
Ossoff’s fundraiser was held in the Vista Room at Napoleon’s. Earlier in the evening, Ossoff met with the Young Democrats of Atlanta at Fado in Buckhead.
Ossoff and Handel finished first and second, respectively, in an April 18 special election that featured 18 candidates. They are running in what has become the most expensive congressional campaign in history.
Democrats see an opportunity to flip a district that has been in GOP hands since 1978. President Donald Trump narrowly carried the district against Hillary Clinton last year.
