Jefferson Riley, the Republican mayor of Mansfield, in Newton County, found himself in hot water after a social media post of his on Tuesday went viral.

The post said, "Remember the voting days: Republicans vote on Tuesday, 11/8 and Democrats vote on Wednesday, 11/9."

Complaints from voters across the nation ran rampant as a result of Riley's post, which ultimately resulted in the deletion of the mayor's personal Facebook account.

While Riley called the post a joke, others, including MSNBC host Joy Reid, soundly criticized the mayor, insisting he is trying to fool Democratic voters.

Twitter posters continued to circulate Riley's post throughout the day, despite the removal of his account, with some saying Riley and his post should be investigated for voter suppression.
