Georgia Votes 2018: Abrams unveils military, veterans campaign platforms

Abrams is seeking to become the nation's first African-American female governor in history.

ATLANTA - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams unveiled a series of proposals for military families and veterans, in her campaign to become the nation’s first African-American female governor in history.

According to her campaign, Abrams’ military and veterans platform has six components: establishing protections for Georgia veteran and military families; improving transitions from service to school and career; protect Georgia military bases; respecting the diversity of service members; supporting veterans in rural communities; and ending veteran homelessness.

Abrams is one of nine candidates seeking to replace Gov. Nathan Deal, who cannot run for reelection. She is facing another former state lawmaker, Stacey Evans, in a May 22 primary to see who will face the GOP nominee in November.
