ROSWELL, Ga. -- An internal investigation has cleared a Roswell police officer of wrongdoing in a controversial arrest that was caught on video.

Shanita Maeberry said that Officer Jim Van Alstine broke her jaw when he hit her as he arrested her on marijuana charges last November.

Police said Maeberry began resisting arrest and punched one of the officers in his face. The officer responded by striking Maeberry in her face. The arrest was videotaped:

On July 31, Van Alstine was exonerated on any charges of wrongdoing in the arrest, police confirmed.

Maeberry was charged with possession of marijuana and felony obstruction of an officer.
