ATLANTA — It's Shaq's birthday, but someone else will be getting an awesome gift!

The NBA great turned 46 years old Tuesday, and was at Atlantic Station giving away free Oreo chocolate candy bars in honor of National Oreo Day (he and the chocolate treat share a birthday). Later on in the day though, Shaq decided he would celebrate the day by making someone else's day.

"It's my birthday and I'm going to do something special for somebody," he said in an Instagram video posted to his profile.

He explained that he had tied $500 to the strings of a bunch of balloons. Then he let go!

"Thanks for all the birthday wishes," he said, before releasing the balloons into the sky.

No one – not even Shaq himself – knows where they'll end up, but if it's you, he wants to know about it!

"If you get it, make sure you hit me back and let me know you got my money," he said.

The former basketball star has been very involved in Atlanta since he left the NBA. In 2016, he bought the iconic Krispy Kreme location on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta. Because he loves doughnuts.

When a teen live streamed an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound, and the family’s grief went viral, Shaq quietly stepped up to pay funeral expenses.

When a 5-year-old girl was mauled by a dog on her way to the bus stop, Shaq visited her in the hospital and helped the family makes ends meet.

Then, in May 2017, he dropped a bombshell and hinted that he may run for Clayton County sheriff in 2020. He capped off the year by surprising local kids with Christmas gifts as "Shaq O Claus."

Needless to say, Shaq has earned a special place in Atlanta's hearts for all the joy he's spread to the city.
