Athens, Tuscaloosa mayors place friendly bet on National Championship game

The mayors of Athens and Tuscaloosa are making wagers in advance of the College Football National Championship game.

The stakes are high when it comes to bringing home the National Championship trophy.

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and Athens-Clark County Mayor Nancy Denson are placing bets for their respective teams. Losing the playoff could mean paying up: in beer.

If the University of Alabama Crimson Tide wins? The mayors agree Mayor Denson will send beer from three Athens area breweries, namely Creature Comforts Brewing Company, Terrapin Beer Company, and The Southern Brewing Company. Mayor Denson will also wear a Bama shirt to the next Athens-Clarke County Commission meeting and donate $100 to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative.

If the tables are turned on Alabama and UGA brings home a win, Mayor Maddox will send beer from three Tuscaloosa-area breweries, namely Band of Brothers Brewing Company, Black Warrior Brewing Company, and Druid City Brewing. He will also don a Bulldogs shirt to the following Tuscaloosa City Council meeting and donate $100 to the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank.
