As the Atlanta Falcons kicked off on Sunday against the San Diego Chargers at the Georgia Dome, it was hard to ignore how empty the Georgia Dome was. The stadium was only about half full.
Where was everyone?
They were stuck in long security lines outside the stadium that lasted well into the second quarter.
One fan Tweeted that he had been in line for 25 minutes and still had a ways to go.
@AtlantaFalcons it would be nice if we could actually get into the dome to the game. In line for 25 minutes and we barely moved!!!— Gary Durden (@GaryDurden) October 23, 2016
11Alive reached out to Falcons officials and asked what was causing the delay.
Officials said it was because of the sheer volume of fans who waited to enter the game just before kickoff and that none of the stadium's security procedures had changed.
They added that NFL security is extremely thorough, and with the beautiful weather, fans likely waited until just before kickoff to flock inside the Dome.
