Georgia is filled with incredible high school football programs.
They are not all just located around metro Atlanta, and we acknowledge that. That's why #Team11 is thrilled to go on the road to Athens this week for a 1-A Region 8 showdown.
After more than a quarter million votes in our poll, Commerce and Athens Academy ran away with the vote to become the #Team11 Game of the Week.
The Commerce Tigers and Athens Academy Spartans have played each other every year since 1999. The Tigers are 13-11 all-time against the Spartans, and they have won two of the last three meetings.
The Spartans are 8-0 for the first time since 2012. That year, they made it to the quarterfinals. They are 7-0 in an incredibly competitive Region 8 division and are tied for sixth with Wesleyan in the Private 1-A power rankings. They are coming off an overtime-win against George Walton Academy. The defense is allowing an average of 11.75 points per game.
The Tigers are 6-2, 5-2 in the region. They have three shutout victories this season, but dropped two games to some of the top teams in Private 1-A: Athens Christian and Prince Avenue Christian. The Tigers lost each of those games by a touchdown. The Tigers are No. 16 in the Public 1-A power rankings. In their six victories this season, the Tigers have defeated opponents by an average of 41.5 points.
