DENVER, Colo. -- The Atlanta Braves' game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field was delayed because of snow.

The game was scheduled to start at 4:10 p.m. EST. However, as snow fell, the grounds crew covered the infield with the tarp and officially put the game in a delay. Officials moved back first pitch to 5:10 p.m. EST, and the Rockies were able to make their home debut.

The Rockies' home opener has the potential to be the coldest in the team's history. Temperatures are forecasted in the mid-20s, more than 10 degrees colder than the coldest home opener on record. The wind chill in Denver was 14 degrees as of Friday afternoon.

It's not rare for the north and midwest to have some winter weather at the beginning of the MLB season, even as spring rolls in at the beginning of April. Several games have been affected by snow already this season.

The New York Yankees recently had to postpone their home opener at Yankee Stadium earlier in the week as snow blanketed the field. The New York Mets had to reschedule their game with the Philadelphia Phillies for the same reason. The series finale between the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox was postponed last Sunday because of snow and freezing temperatures.
