The Atlanta Braves traded outfielder Matt Kemp back to his former team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, as a part of a five-player trade on Saturday.

In exchange for Kemp, the Braves received pitchers Brandon McCarthy and Scott Kazmir. Also, they received infielder Charlie Culberson, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and cash considerations. Gonzalez has been designated for assignment putting the roster to 40.

Gonzalez will be a free agent on Wednesday, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

Kemp was traded to the Braves in 2016, a welcomed trade for the outfielder who grew up idolizing the team. He was third on the team last season in RBIs with 64 and had 19 home runs. The Braves traded for Kemp during the 2016 season and were able to send Hector Olivera away to the San Diego Padres.

Kemp was drafted by the Dodgers in the 2003 Amateur Draft out of high school and played there for nine seasons. He was a two-time All-Star.

Now his departure could open up a spot for the Braves top prospect, Ronald Acuna. Acuna is just 19 years old, but took home the Joe Black MVP award for the Arizona Fall League after hitting .325 with seven home runs in 23 games. At Triple-A Gwinnett, he averaged. 344 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs.

The Braves received McCarthy who was a 1st round pick in the 2002 First-Year Player draft by the Chicago White Sox. He has a 63-72 career record and a 4.15 ERA in 240 games and 182 starts.

Culberson was part of the Dodgers league championship and World Series roster. He appeared in 10 games during the Dodgers' postseason run, hitting 8-for-12 with three extra base hits. He is a native of Rome, Ga.

Kazmir is a three-time All-Star. He made 26 starts for the Dodgers last season and had a 10-6 record with a 4.56 ERA. It was the first time he had at least 10 wins in a season since 2014.
