Brandon Boykin visits Georgia Dome rubble, reflects on past SEC Championships

The former Georgia Bulldog thinks if there were ever a team that could win it all, it's this one under Kirby Smart.

The last two times the Georgia Bulldogs were in the SEC Championship, neither game ended so well.

In 2011, the Bulldogs began their season at the Georgia Dome in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff game against Boise State. However, they struggled and started 0-2 that season. They went on to win 10 straight games, and they faced the No. 1 LSU Tigers in the conference championship.

Former Bulldog Brandon Boykin played in that game and remembers how tough it was. The Tigers handled business against the Bulldogs, winning 42-10. They went on to lose to Alabama in the national championship that season.

"That's the SEC for you," Boykin said. "It's just the best conference in college football. Every single year, it's competitive."

But Boykin believes Kirby Smart and this year's Bulldog team has what it takes to get over the hump.

"Georgia's been kind of in the mix, but they haven't been to the top. This is the year if there ever was a year to do it," he said.

Kim Smith took a trip down memory lane with Boykin. The two visit the former sight of the Georgia Dome, look back on previous games and preview Georgia's upcoming game in the SEC Championship.
