Saturday's Georgia Tech-University of Central Florida game has been called off as a result of the ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Irma.

The vicinity around UCF's Spectrum Stadium has been used as one of several prime staging areas for more than 1,000 Florida National Guard members and more than 250 vehicles in the Orlando area. As a result, the Georgia Tech-UCF game was canceled.

"We are in complete agreement with the decision," said Georgia Tech Athletic Directo Todd Stansbury, who served as UCF's A.D. from 2012-15. "While we're disappointed for both teams' student-athletes, coaches and fans, recovering from the effects of Hurricane Irma should be and is the top priority for UCF and the entire state of Florida at this time. We wish them the very best in their recovery efforts and look forward to meeting on the gridiron down the road."

The two schools along with the American Athletic Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference explored rescheduling options for the game before the cancellation.

UCF had suspended all campus activities prior to Hurricane Irma's arrival, and does not plan to reopen for students before Thursday, September 14. UCF had already called off this past weekend's scheduled game against the University of Memphis due to Irma.

Georgia Tech has also been forced to reschedule its upcoming game with the University of Miami due to the hurricane. Its scheduled October 12 contest has been shifted to October 14 -- a result of other scheduling moves tied to a postponement of the Miami-Florida State game on September 16.
