The Heisman Trophy Trust announced Monday the three finalists for college football's top individual award.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, Stanford running back Bryce Love and Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson, last year's winner, will be in attendance when the trophy is handed out Saturday night.

Mayfield is expected to win the award after throwing for 4,340 yards and 41 touchdowns while leading the Sooners to the College Football Playoff.

The senior had been in a tight race with Penn State running back Saquon Barkley for the first half of the season before leading Oklahoma to eight consecutive victories, while the Nittany Lions stumbled to two losses.

He would be the sixth Sooners player to win the award. Notre Dame holds the record with seven.

An Ohio State player has taken home the trophy seven times, however, running back Archie Griffin is a two-time winner.

Love finished the regular season second in the country with 1,973 rushing yards and averaged 8.3 yards per carry despite dealing with an ankle injury that caused him to miss one game and limited him in several others.

If the junior finishes second in the voting, it would be the fifth time in nine years a Cardinal player was runner-up.

Jim Plunkett in 1970 was the only winner from Stanford.

Jackson returns to New York as a long shot even though his statistics are comparable to last year. The junior threw for 3,489 yards and 25 touchdowns and ran for 1,443 yards and 17 touchdowns, while the Cardinals finished 8-4.
