ATLANTA - Atlanta United won its 2018 home opener on Sunday, defeating DC United by a final score of 3-1.

The Five Stripes are now 1-1 after last weekend’s 4-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo in a surprisingly one-sided game.

Atlanta United led DC led 1-0 at halftime after Josef Martínez left-footed a shot, with an assist by Héctor Villalba.

The Five Stripes then went up 2-0 after Miguel Almirón's shot, assisted by Julian Gressel. Héctor Villalba then made the score 3-0, with an Almirón assist.

An estimated 70,000 people saw Atlanta United kick off its home schedule in its second season at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
