ATHENS, Ga -- Maurice Smith's pick-six against the Auburn Tigers earned him the title of SEC Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Less than 30 seconds into the second half against the Tigers on Saturday, Smith intercepted quarterback Sean White and returned it 34 yards for the Bulldogs' only touchdown, but it was enough to lead the Bulldogs (6-4) to a 13-7 upset over the then-No. 9 ranked Tigers (7-3).

"I was relieved. I've been wanting to get an [interception] for the longest [time], and I end up getting it and God blessed me and the defense did a great job blocking," Smith said after the win. "I honestly thought he was throwing to me. Maybe I had a white jersey on."

Smith is a graduate transfer from Alabama, and he is the third Bulldog to earn conference honors this season. Chubb was the SEC Offensive Player of the Week after the win against North Carolina to open the season. Kicker Rodrigo Blankenship was the Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking the game-winner against Kentucky.

Smith is a native of Sugar Land, Texas. He has two interceptions, one sack and 38 total tackles this season.
