1 killed, 1 injured after Cobb County wreck

Both people were taken to a local hospital, but one of them was later pronounced dead.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — One person has been killed, and another is injured after a deadly wreck in Cobb County Thursday morning.

According to a Cobb County Police Department statement, the wreck happened near the intersection of Hurt and Brooks roads around 10:19 a.m.

Investigators say a 2007 black Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling west on Hurt Road, and a 2015 Toyota Avalon was traveling east on Hurt Road when both vehicles were approaching the intersection with Brooks Road.

When the Chevrolet crossed the center line, it failed to maintain its lane. That's when it drove into the concrete curb and guardrail and then collided with the Toyota, police said.

Both Marietta residents, 68-year-old Gail McGill Draper and 66-year-old Cuc Thi Tran were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.

Tran was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, but authorities said Draper was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Cobb County Police Department said their Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is working on the fatal incident, which remains under investigation.
