Body found in vehicle confirmed to be missing South Carolina nurse

Family said Shauna Brown was going to Birmingham, Alabama but didn't answer her phone the next day. Investigators said there was no evidence she ever made it.

WARREN COUNTY, Ga. — Weeks after a missing woman's vehicle was found wrecked on I-20, authorities confirm that the body found inside was hers.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that Shauna Brown was found dead on July 21 in her car which was in a wooded area off the interstate in Warren County, Georgia.

Columbia Police had been looking for the 39-year-old nurse since July 12 and believe she had wrecked two days earlier while heading to Alabama. However, investigators said there was no evidence she ever made it there.

Brown's mother told News19 previously that she had been going to Birmingham for her clinical. But, on Monday, she didn't answer her phone.

And while the woman found in the vehicle was wearing medical scrubs, police were awaiting an official identification by Georgia's state medical examiners before officially confirming Brown's death.
