McDONOUGH, Ga. -- Henry County officials have confirmed that passengers are safe after a charter bus fire on I-75 Friday afternoon.

Officials believe the fire started in connection with a blown tire on the northbound I-75 ramp at exit 218.

On the bus were 51 elementary school students and 4 adults who were safely evacuated from the bus with no injures.

At this point transportation is being organized for the passengers. But for now, two right-hand lanes of I-75 and the entire exit ramp are closed.

Drivers in the area can expect a one hour delay until the scene is cleared.
