A Forsyth County Sheriff's Deputy was seriously injured in a wreck early Saturday morning along Georgia 400.

The deputy's cruiser was parked on the shoulder of the highway at about 1:30 a.m. when a 2005 Ford Explorer slammed into the patrol car at full speed.

Deputy Rod Reeves received very serious injuries in the wreck. He was rushed to a local hospital. Officials said that while his injuries were significant, they do not appear to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Ford, 27-year-old Aaron Riley Russell, has been arrested. He is suspected of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended and revoked license. Authorities also consider him a habitual violator.

After the wreck, Forsyth County Fire and EMS crews had to cut Deputy Reeves out of his patrol car before he was able to be transported to the hospital.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Office officials said they have received numerous requests for ways to help Deputy Reeves and his family.

They invite those wishing to donate to visit their public safety foundation B.A.D.G.E. (Benevolent Association Dedicated to Giving to Employees of Forsyth County Sheriff's Office) page to donate online or to drop off donations in person at the Sheriff's Office or at Billy Howell Lincoln Mercury/Ford. Please indicate that your donation is for Deputy Reeves, and know that 100 percent of your donation is going toward the deputy and his family.
