The Georgia State Patrol is investigating an accident involving a deputy's patrol car and a semi-truck in Gordon County.

According to information released by Cpl. Jack Lawrence with Georgia State Patrol Post 43, the accident happened as the deputy was responding to another crash near mile marker 321 on northbound I-75.

Lawrence said that the deputy was traveling on the stretch of roadway with his lights activated while a semi was traveling in the far-right lane. The deputy was responding to an accident with injuries.

As the deputy approached the accident scene, he began slowing down and went from the left lane across to the right. That's where he was struck in the rear by the bobtail truck.

Authorities hope to have more answers regarding the accident on Thursday after the preliminary investigation is completed.

Lawrence said no injuries were reported in deputy-involved crash. As for the crash he was responding to, a total of five people were taken to the hospital - two with minor injuries and three more with complaints of injuries.
