ATLANTA -- It's the home stretch before Interstate 85 finally reopens to traffic, but Atlanta drivers might have to endure one final headache before that happens.

Overnight May 11 and 12, the Georgia Department of Transportation will have several lane closures and pace traffic. The closures will help GDOT crews to restore traffic patterns and configurations to how they were before the Interstate collapse.

On May 11, these roadways will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day for the following:

-SR 13/Buford Hwy northbound --- restoration
-Sidney Marcus ramp to SR 400 northbound --- conversion back to a single lane
-Piedmont Circle --- lane reconfiguration

On May 12, several points along the Buford Spring Connector will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day:

-I-85 southbound
-Piedmont Road southbound on-ramp
-Armour Drive southbound on-ramp

Drivers are being advised to plan ahead to avoid the affected routes during those hours. GDOT also reminds motorists driving through work zones to drive slowly and watch out for road crews.

It's been more than 40 days since a fiery inferno burned under the Interstate bridge and caused it to collapse. Crews have been working around the clock to rebuild the destroyed section of I-85, and they are scheduled to finish repairs more than a month ahead of schedule thanks to big incentives.
