ATLANTA -- At least we have advance warning.

That's the most positive thing we can say about the news that the Georgia Department of Transportation delivered on Tuesday.

GDOT warned drivers that Piedmont Road near Interstate 85 will be closed from 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25 through 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 26.

Weather permitting, crews plan to work through the day and night to set beams for the I-85 bridge project.

A portion of the bridge just south of Georgia 400 and Piedmont Road collapsed after a massive fire on March 30.

In the days after the accident, Piedmont remained closed, but was reopened on April 4.

Officials have set June 15 as a projected opening date for the roadway, but hope incentives can drive the project to completion even sooner. The Piedmont closure is another sign that things are progressing, as it represents what GDOT calls "a crucial milestone".

The I-85 collapse was just one of many recent traffic troubles that have left metro Atlanta drivers reaching for Advil.

Monday alone, several lanes of the Downtown Connector were closed after an accident involving a tractor-trailer left gallons of chemicals on the highway. Then, a portion of Interstate 20 buckled as crews worked to fill an abandoned pipe. A fire under a bridge forced the closure of a section of Buford Highway in Brookhaven.

People on social media have been wondering what's next.

So at least we have nearly week to think about alternate routes around Piedmont Road. Of course, 11Alive's TrafficTrackers will be there to help.
