Marietta crash leaves two teens in critical condition

The cause is still under investigation, though heavy rains were reported across metro Atlanta around the same time.

MARIETTA, Ga. — A crash amid the heavy rains that hit metro Atlanta on Tuesday has sent two teens to the hospital with serious injuries.

Marietta Police said they have sent out their Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) investigators to look into the crash after 19-year-old Colton Petty lost control of his Ford Mustang on Barrett Parkway, not far from Village Greene.

According to a preliminary investigation, the car had spun out and left the roadway before hitting a tree in the median. Both Petty and his passenger, Dalton Doris, were seriously injured in the crash and taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in critical condition.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but coincided with heavy rains across the region that brought flooding to some roadways.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call Office St. Onge at 770-794-5352.
